What shaped your path towards the technical field?

Bionda: I was always encouraged by my parents to make my own choices, which gave me the freedom to explore what I enjoyed and wanted to pursue. I began my journey with a culinary education but later switched to studying facility management. After 12 years in a facilities role, I felt ready for a new challenge. That is how I joined VINCI Energies in 2018. In this role, I have the chance to continue learning through additional training, and from day one, my colleagues have been incredibly supportive, answering every question I have had. My journey may not be the traditional one, but that is exactly why I strive to inspire my children to take their time exploring the world. Through education and experiences, they can grow into whoever they want to be!

How do you maintain a good work-life balance?

Bionda: I decided to work 32 hours a week, spread across five days, which allows me to have Wednesday and Friday afternoons off to pick up my children from school. Since COVID-19, I have also really benefited from the option to work from home, as it allows me to be highly productive in a short amount of time. A change of scenery can also make a big difference, so I sometimes work from different locations or even outdoors. I truly enjoy site visits as well, as they not only take me all over the Netherlands but also give me the chance to meet new people regularly. Additionally, I have the flexibility to complete any extra training at my own pace.

As a woman, do you feel you have a different experience working with male colleagues?

Bionda: From day one, I have felt welcome at VINCI Energies. My colleagues treat me as part of the team and always take the time to explain things in detail when I have questions. It is true that men sometimes interact more bluntly with each other, but I appreciate that honesty. I believe that when choosing a technical role, it is important to have the right expectations, regardless of gender. The tech world is the most remarkable of all, offering unparalleled opportunities for new experiences and continuous learning. For anyone unsure about pursuing a technical career, I would recommend taking the leap. It is the fastest way to discover your true interests and to find a job that suits you. Trust your instincts and stay true to yourself.
