Stevin Project, renewal of the high-voltage grid between Zomergem and Zeebrugge
The project is designed to upgrade the high voltage grid between Zomergem & Zeebrugge and will also serve for the Nemo project and the strengthening of the grid in West Flanders, in particular the port of Zeebrugge.
It includes the realization of the new 380kV high voltage power line Horta-Stevin. This new line makes it possible to bring wind energy from offshore wind farms to land, so that larger amounts of electricity from the coast can be transported landward. The distance of the link is 47 km, consisting of 10 km underground cable and 35 km of overhead line with 4-bundle conductor, 3,000 tons of steel poles and 620 km of cable.
As part of a joint venture Omexom participated in the construction of the towers and stringing of the 4-bundle overhead lines.
